It is widely believed that George W. Bush was not properly elected in either 2000 or 2004, but obtained a victory by illegal vote suppression and other criminal misbehavior on the part of Republican officials in Florida and Ohio, especially their Secretaries of State, aided by a purely political vote in the Supreme Court in 2000. Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has admitted that her deciding vote in this case was political, and a mistake.
